It's likely to be the lightest/least cumbersome chain lock offered by Kryptonite, May 14, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Kryptonite New York Noose 1275 Chain Bicycle Lock with Evolution Series 4 Disc Lock Chain Bicycle Lock (2-Foot x 4-Inch) (Sports) I was deciding for quite a long time whether to get a standard u-lock or a chain. I decided that a u-lock would not really allow locking your bike to larger objects. Compared to the other chains offered by Kryptonite, at just longer than two feet, this offers both the protection (rated at 10 out of 12) and portability (I estimate at about 5 pounds in my bookbag) compared to the 10-15 pound behemoths that they offer. So relatively speaking, if you want the versatility of a chain that a u-lock doesn't offer, go for this. The noose design also allows for a number of different ways to lock up your ride.

My old chain was about halfway cut through when I found it and only by the grace of god, for some reason, the thief didn't finish the job. Not becuase they couldn't, b/c the chain was barley still together. That's when I said i paid too much for my bike to play this game. I have to step up and get a legit lock. "But damn" i said to myself, those heavy high end kryptonite locks weigh so freaking much. Some of them 15 lbs, and that's not feasible to ride around with all the time for me. Enter this model chain. This is the lightest, most well designed form of a heavy duty "maximum security" chain that kryptonite offers that will give you the highest security you can get with the lightest total weight. It is a little on the heavy side, but it's worth it for a little extra peace of mind. I say 'a little extra peace of mind' because let's face it, there isn't a single lock on the market that is 'theft proof'. They're all just deterrents. The question is how much you want to 'deter'. And when a thief sees this chain on your bike, they'll definitely set their sites on the other bikes in the near vicinity secured with the inferior cable locks.
The noose design offers many different locking options for a variety of situations. Check the uploaded images for some examples. I think this length is just right. In my opinion the 4 foot version is just overkill, not to mention almost double the weight. I guess the biggest obstacle that one may encounter with this lock is transporting it. I'm fortunate that it hangs nicely on the back of the seat on my recumbent trike, but it should fit nicely into a back pack or heavy duty pannier.
