Heavy Duty Lock, nice construction (CAUTION ON MOUNTING), March 21, 2012 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Blackburn San Quentin U-Lock (Sports) If you are buying this lock you will already know how much it weighs. It isn't a feather weight, but that is what more steel buys you.
The locking mechanism is smooth, but does get caught up sometimes. Not sure why. It does feel like it built for the long road and will last.
CAUTION: When installing the mounting bracket to your bike I recommend using a hair dryer to get the plastic warmed up to ~100F. Just a bit warmer than it would be in your pocket. The plastic that is used on the bracket is very strong, but when I tried to put it on in my 60F garage, one of the legs snapped in a heartbeat. I then tried the other leg to see and it was just as bad.
It took 2 weeks to get a replacement sent from Blackburn, but they did it all free of charge. (thumbs up)
The second attempt was successful as I warmed the plastic up (should still be able to touch it... so don't melt it!).

It is long, which makes it easier to secure my bike in more places. It locks on both ends of the U, which means that a would be thief needs to cut through both sides of the lock to remove it. It is quite heavy, but it is supposed to be.
