Nice scale; replace the batteries as soon as you get it!, March 21, 2011 By This review is from: Feedback Sports Alpine Digital Scale (Sports) This is a nice scale to have around the house. I am able to weight my bike(s) with it as well as little parts. I even use it occasionally as a postal scale. To weight the small stuff, I just put the items in a plastic grocery bag and hang it from the hook. The spring (weighing) mechanism rattles when you handle the scale, but overall durability seems pretty good. One word of caution though: The batteries that come with this (4'AAA') are those super-cheap non-alkaline type (I didn't even know they still made those!!!), and after about a year inside they will corrode and leak some bad stuff inside. My advice would be to go to Walmart (or Target), pick-up a set of decent batteries for $1.99 and toss the ones that come with this ASAP. Unless you run a bike shop, there will probably be a period of time when you don't use this (several months) which will be enough time for the cheap batteries to die and begin to leak.

I should preface this review by acknowledging that I received this scale for free from the now-defunct Ultimate Bicycle Support (now wrapped into Feedback Sports) back in 2005, when Ultimate and Feedback first began working collaboratively. I never would have purchased this scale on my own, as I'm pretty far from being a "weight weenie," but I've found some other uses that make it handy to have around the garage.
For starters, the scale is durable: It lives in my roll-around bicycle toolbox, and doesn't receive the coddling my My Weigh 7001DX digital scale does, which serves double-duty in the kitchen. Feedback wrapped their electronics in a grippy, protective rubber bumper, and used non-brittle plastic and no physical buttons in its design.
